Cardiology Magazine Infographic

For the winter 2015 edition of Cardiology, a quarterly publication of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), we decided to do the last-page infographic as an illustration in the visual capture style of sketchnoting and graphic recording.

Starting with a bullet-point facts and figures list, I quickly sketched corresponding visuals to mimic the spontenaety of visual capture, then put them into a layout built around a sketch of the ACC's "Heart House" HQ in Washington, DC. Almost all work was done by hand, from the linework to the marker-based color palette, with all phases of the project done with the relative speed and spontenaety of real-world, on-site sketchnoting/graphic recording sessions, in order to keep true to these disciplines. Photoshop was used only to adjust earlier versions of the layout, as well as for final scanning and color adjustments.

This project won an award in Graphic Design USA's 2015 InHouse Design Awards, and the project itself was enthusiastically envisioned and enabled by Tony Ciccolella, head of Creative and Branding services at the ACC, and a man with a true appreciation for the timeless art and craft of graphic design, illustration, and branding.
